Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.
A Gradual Return
The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.
Within the audience will be people from various age groups.
That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
