The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
