Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the recent mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their killer carried on following the freeing by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

His name was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were wounded in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a raid at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

The assailant began shooting inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official informed the news agency.

Officers that entered the inn seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a independent school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the group. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his promising future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in this year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
